Lindheimer Chapter Board Minutes July 2026 (Preliminary)

Old Business:
- Were the yard signs from Thompson Printing (open through August 3rd) ordered? Unknown.
State Society:
President’s Report: Sara Torres, Acting
- Continue Board meetings at TPML at 9:30, on the second Tuesday, reservation for Sept. through Dec. at TPML has been approved. We will hold our chapter meetings at Mammen Family Public Library during construction. Nancy has reserved a room at Mammen Library for August through December for the chapter meetings. Sara will ask about doing TPML for chapter meetings.
- Please turn in your Event Liability Forms.
Secretary’s Report: Dick Bigelow
- Dick Bigelow, VOTE to approve minutes. Dick made a motion to approve the July minutes, Craig seconded, unanimous approval.
- Dick will be stepping down from all duties at the end of the year.
- The battery in the old laptop has died but it can still be used when plugged in.
Treasurer’s Report: Sarah Mato
- The bank balance did not have an update, Sara said there had not been much change from last month.
- Update on 2025 audit. We don’t know if Sarah has gotten everything she needs to finalize the audit.
Director of Formal Education: Craig Bruska
- Native Seed Library Program, upcoming workdays
- August 13th (second Thursday) Mammen seed cleaning 2-4 PM.
- August 20th (third Thursday) Garden Ridge seed cleaning 1-3 PM.
- August 21st (second Friday normally) TPML seed cleaning 2-4 PM.
- September 19th NLCP 2 Mammen. Registration is full, looking to have one mentor for every 4 students.
- October 31st NLCP 3 Mammen. Registration is full.
Director of Community Outreach: Sara Torres, Acting
- Demonstration Gardens:
Heritage Museum of the Texas Hill Country – Mickey Riviere, 1st Thursdays at 9:30-11:00.
Chamber of Commerce demonstration garden – Sara Torres, 3rd Wednesdays 9 AM.
- Our next workday is Wednesday August 19th.
Mamman Demo Garden – 2nd Wednesday only August 9:00-11:00.
Gorge Preservation Society workdays (Canyon Lake Gorge) – Every Tuesday 9-11, 2nd Saturdays 9-12.
- Leon is part of A tree Huggers Guide: A Native Tree Care and Landscape Design Course, September 12th 10 AM – 2 PM at the San Marcos Public Library 625 E. Hopkins St.
- Debbie has signed us up for the HEB tabling for Native Plant Week. We will be doing the 2nd weekend Oct. 24,25 at the Spring Branch location.
Director of Communications: Open
- Facebook – Nancy 161 followers up from 158 last month.
- Send upcoming events to Dick to be updated on the website.
Director of Plant Sales: Debbie Kyrouac
- Fall plant sale will coincide with NLCP III on Oct 31 at Mammen Library, she is looking at plant digs to get plants.
- Spring plant sale – With Easter being March 28, she is looking at reaching out to the Mammen Library to see if we can secure April 3 for an NLCP class and Spring plant sale.
Past President: Sara Torres really needs someone to take on the duties of President, she has had a number of things come up that have to be dealt with impacting her available time.
Program Committee Chair: Mike Laffey
- August 18th room B at Mammen, Tracey Brown will speak on “Fruitful Choices”, the talk will explore a variety of fruit-bearing trees and shrubs that thrive in Central Texas, focusing on both native species and well-adapted cultivars.
- September 15th Jeff Pavalat at Mammen – the Curator of Cacti & Succulents of the Zilker Botanical Garden in Austin, speaking on “Cacti & Succulents of South Texas”.
- October 13th Mammen Room B. Will check on a Monarch Program presentation.
- November 17th Mammen Room B. Seed exchange.
- December 15th Mammen Rooms A&B. Christmas party.
Field Trip Chair: Christina Campbell
- Field trip to Inevitable Technology at 103 Center Point Rd. Ste A in San Marcos is lined up for Saturday, July 18th at 11am. Went well.
- September field trip to Zilker Botanical, Austin. Guided tours start at $7 per visitor and usually last between 60-90 minutes. Saturday, September 26th 10 to 11:30 AM.
Membership: Bev Willman
- As of 8/6/26, we have 105 primary members + 37 affiliates = 142 total.
Hospitality: Jan Walker
- Sara requested that Craig contact Jan to be sure she has the dates for the NLCP classes.
