It grows to 6\u2019-12\u2019 tall with a similar spread. It is deciduous and<br \/>relatively fast growing once established. White to pale pink flowers resembling small<br \/>orchids appear in spring and attract butterflies and bees.<br \/>Planting Sites: Anacacho Orchid Tree prefers well-drained rocky limestone soils. It will<br \/>also grow in limestone based sandy loam. The tree needs full or part sun, and should<br \/>be planted on the south side of a building where winters are severe.<\/p><p><br \/><strong>Planting Instructions :<\/strong> Dig hole 2 to 3 times larger than, but the same depth as, the<br \/>nursery container. Carefully remove plant from container and gently loosen any<br \/>circling roots or compacted soil around the root ball. Plant at the same depth as the<br \/>soil in the container. Add 2 to 3 inches of mulch.<\/p><p><br \/><strong>Watering Instructions :<\/strong> Water well after planting, using root stimulator according to directions. For at least 3<br \/>months, water deeply every 7-10 days to promote deep roots that will withstand drought. Skip a watering after a<br \/>rainfall of \u00bd\u201d to 1\u201d. Once established, Anacacho Orchid Tree is extremely drought-tolerant and probably doesn\u2019t<br \/>need supplemental water except in extraordinary drought.<\/p><p><br \/><strong>Comments :<\/strong> Leaves have an interesting cleft shape. Prune the trees for shape or to raise canopy. Begin pruning<br \/>when the tree is young for a single trunked tree. Fragrant flowers attract butterflies and bees. Fruit is a flattened<br \/>pod.
