It grows 12\u2019 \u2013 15\u2019 tall<br \/>with a spread of about 15\u2019. Crushed leaves are fragrant. In winter female<br \/>trees\u2019 branches sport blue berries that are prized wildlife.<\/p><p><strong>Planting Sites:<\/strong> Wax myrtle grows in full sun or part shade. It prefers deep soils and grows in sand, loam or clay. It<br \/>has moderate water demands at first, but is both drought- and flood-tolerant once established. It is salt-tolerant<br \/>and will grow with roots confined by pavement. It can withstand temperatures to 0 o F.<\/p><p><strong>Planting Instructions:<\/strong> Dig hole 2 to 3 times larger than, but the same depth as, the nursery container. Carefully<br \/>remove plant from container, gently loosen any compacted soil around the root ball and pull out circling roots.<br \/>Plant root ball slightly higher than the surrounding soil. Add 2\u201d &#8211; 3\u201d of mulch.<\/p><p><strong>Watering Instructions:<\/strong> Pre-soak the planting hole and water deeply after planting, using root stimulator according<br \/>to directions. For at least 3 months, water deeply every 7-10 days to promote deep roots that will withstand<br \/>drought. May skip a watering after a rainfall of \u00bd\u201d to 1\u201d.<\/p><p><strong>Comments:<\/strong> Plant is good for hedges if left bushy; trimmed up, it makes a nice tree. To produce berries female<br \/>trees need a male tree in the area.
