class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Inland sea oats<\/strong> is a 2-4 ft., clump-forming, perennial grass bearing large,<br \/>drooping, oat-like flower spikelets from slender, arching branches. These<br \/>are followed by graceful drooping seedheads which begin a bright green<br \/>and gradually turn tan by fall. The grass\u2019s native habitat is shaded slopes,<br \/>low thickets, and stream banks.<\/p><p><strong>Planting Sites:<\/strong> The grass grows best in moist sands, loams or clay soil in full shade or part shade. Will grow in full<br \/>sun with lots of water, but leaves turn yellowish.<br \/>Planting Instructions: Dig hole slightly larger than, but the same depth as, the nursery container. Carefully remove<br \/>plant from container and gently loosen any compacted soil or roots around the root ball. Plant at the same depth<br \/>as the soil in the container. Add 2 to 3 inches of mulch.<\/p><p><strong>Watering Instructions:<\/strong> Water well after planting, using a root stimulator mixed according to directions. For about 3<br \/>months, water deeply when top 1 &#8211; 2\u201d of soil is dry to promote deep roots that will withstand drought. Skip a<br \/>watering after a rainfall of \u00bd\u201d to 1\u201d.<\/p><p><strong>Comments:<\/strong> One of the few native grasses that will grow well in shade. Attracts birds and butterflies. Larval host for<br \/>several butterflies. Birds use stems and leaves for nests and eat the mature seeds. Seedheads are pretty in dried<br \/>arrangements.
