The grass has a large, airy, much- branched seed<br \/>head that is up to half as long as the entire plant. The spikelets are purple. In fall the plant takes on a<br \/>feathery, deep pink hue, creating a stunning pink to lavender floral display.<\/p><p><strong>Planting Sites:<\/strong> Sandy soil, sandy loam or clay soil in full sun or part shade. Moderate water usage.<br \/>Planting Instructions: Space plants 2&#8242; apart. Dig hole slightly larger than, but the same depth as the nursery container. Carefully<br \/>remove plant from container and gently loosen any compacted soil or roots around the root ball. Plant at the same depth as the soil in<br \/>the container. Add 2 to 3 inches of mulch.<\/p><p><strong>Watering Instructions:<\/strong> Water well after planting, using a root stimulator mixed according to directions. For about 3 months, water<br \/>deeply when top 2 &#8211; 3&#8243; of soil is dry to promote deep roots that will withstand drought. Skip a watering after a rainfall of 34&#8243; to 1&#8243;.<br \/>Once established, gulf muhly is drought-tolerant.<\/p><p><br \/><strong>Comments:<\/strong> Gulf muhly functions well in meadow gardens or as a general garden plant. Most effective when several plants are grouped<br \/>together.
