Plants will self-seed<br \/>in sand or gravelly soils.<\/p><p><strong>Planting Sites:<\/strong> Gayfeather grows best in well-drained, gravelly sandy or clay soil in full sun. Does not tolerate wet<br \/>feet!<\/p><p><strong>Planting Instructions:<\/strong> Dig hole slightly larger than, but the same depth as the nursery container. Carefully remove<br \/>plant from container and gently loosen any compacted soil or roots around the root ball. Plant at the same depth<br \/>as the surrounding soil. Add 2 to 3 inches of mulch. Drought tolerant once established.<\/p><p><strong>Watering Instructions:<\/strong> Water well after planting, using a root stimulator mixed according to directions. For about<br \/>3 months, water deeply when top 2 &#8211; 3\u201d of soil is dry to promote deep roots that will withstand drought. Skip a<br \/>watering after a rainfall of \u00bd\u201d to 1\u201d.
