Packera aurea
Plant Name: Golden Groundsel, Golden Ragwort, Butterweed, Packera aurea Flowers are deep golden-yellow, daisy-like and showy. Heart-shaped basal leaves are dark-green above and purple beneath. Flowering stems 1-3 ft. in height.
Planting Sites: Rich, acidic soils.
Planting Instructions: Space plants 3’ – 6’ apart. Dig hole slightly larger than, but the same depth as the nursery
container. Carefully remove plant from container and gently loosen any circling roots or compacted soil around the
root ball. Plant at the same depth as the soil in the container. Add 2 to 3 inches of mulch.
Watering Instructions: Prefers moisture but also found growing in dryish areas. Tolerates seasonal flooding.
Comments: When planted en masse, can lend a golden glow to the spring woodland landscape. Flowers attract bees. Warning: POISONOUS PARTS: Leaves, but only low toxicity if touched or ingested. Symptoms include liver toxicity, skin irritation following contact. Toxic Principle: Pyrrolizidine alkaloids.
