A bi-monthly Demonstration Garden Workday was held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the Museum of Texas Handmade Furniture (known by some as part of the grounds on which Folkfest is held).

The latest area receiving TLC is the flower bed at the entrance to the road looping around the Heritage Village going to Museum Parking.  It can be identified by the various signs showing the German-American names of an armadillo (das Panzerschwein, skunk (die Stinkkatze), racoon (der Waschbär), and Roadrunner (der Strasselaufer).

The flower bed remodel involves new placement of the stonework surround, judicious trimming of the main native shrub Flame Acanthus Anisacanthus quadrifidus var. wrightii (which is so prosperous that it obscures the hanging sign), mulch work, and additional native plants.

This work-in-progress invites volunteers to help finish the task.  Texas Master Naturalists can earn hours toward their annual 40 hours of volunteer service.  Check the Lindheimer chapter’s calendar for work dates at

Demonstration Garden Workdays are on the second Wednesday and fourth Thursday of every month for the Texas Museum of Handmade Furniture (contact Craig Bruska for details at craigbruska@hotmail.com).
