Friday, September 20, 2024 was the latest seed-cleaning session for the native plant Seed Library section of the Tye Preston Memorial Library.

Craig Bruska, Seed Committee chairman, directed the volunteer workers in cleaning and packaging replacement seed packets for the current lending inventory.  The properly labeled envelopes will then be placed in specific drawers of the TPML Seed Library cabinet located in the main entry foyer of the library.

If needed, seed library notebooks will be updated to show the common name, botanical name, and properties of the various plants to be grown from the newly available seeds.

Today’s session filled approximately 500 envelopes to replace checked-out envelopes in the seed library drawers.

All volunteer participants are contributing to a growing demand for native seeds, especially as more libraries are becoming interested in adding this feature to their own enterprises.

An open invitation is extended for anyone to 1) donate local native seeds, 2) help package seeds for the lending library, or 3) check out and plant up to 5 seed packets per visit to Tye Preston Memorial Library.

The next seed sorting sessions at TPML will be held on Friday, October 18th and on Saturday, October 19th from 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM.  See you there!
