This August has been exceptionally rainy, considering the last couple of years.  Many areas in South Texas were treated to a thunderstorm last Friday night—including my yard on the outskirts of New Braunfels.  The rain gauge sported 2 inches of rain!

Needless to say, the ground and the native plants soaked it up immediately.  My summer plans originally did not include any lawn mowing—just weeding.  However, now I have to wade through tall weeds!  At least the ground has gone from dry and cracked to moist and pliant for weed pulling.

I have been “blessed” with a new crop of baby pill bugs and mosquitos.  It’s no wonder that the local lizards are looking so plump and the blue-gray gnatcatcher birds are so busy.  Baby, it’s a jungle out there!
